Clermont, a central Florida town was named after its founder's birthplace in France. It is one of the few Florida counties that has dramatic scenery, much of central Florida’s terrain is flat and this attractive town is nestled in the rolling hills of Lake County. Clermont has a high elevation of 300 feet and a low elevation of 100 feet and is bordered by Lake Minnehaha on the South, and Lake Minneola on the North.
Clermont is on a chain of 11 lakes known as The Clermont Chain, which are connected by the Palatlakaha River. There are excellent facilities for fishing for bass, perch, catfish, and bluegill, water sports including skiing, swimming and canoeing.
Historically, Clermont was founded by the Homesteaders who started moving into the area around the end of the Civil War and in the 1880’s the citrus industry began to develop. The Citrus Tower stands as a monument to the citrus industry; at 226 feet high the glass-enclosed observatory deck gives breathtaking views over the area's lakes, orange groves and rolling hills.
