Property for sale in Kissimmee
Following Disney's first appearance in Kissimmee in 1971, the population doubled and has continued to grow; currently over 39,000 people reside within the corporate limits of the City. Residential property growth is soaring with single-family homes, condominiums and new neighbourhoods appearing making the Kissimmee area very attractive for people searching for property for sale. Golf-front homes, lakeside estates and detached vacation homes make-up a large proportion of the property that is currently available to buy in this area. The main industry of Kissimmee is tourism however, the area boasts several corporate headquarters and is the home of the Houston Astros spring training facility.
The City of Kissimmee was originally a small trading post on the northern bank of Lake Tohopekaliga, central Florida when Walt Disney chose it as the site for the theme park complex. When Walt Disney World opened in the early 70's it was the start of a boom for building and tourism that has made this area one of the world's biggest tourist attractions.
Kissimmee is now a mixture of old and new. Downtown offers a historic environment including the Osceola County Courthouse, built in 1889, which is still serving the public today. A short distance from the town is the Disney Empire where you find the original Magic Kingdom with its Tommorrowland, Frontierland, Adventureland and Fantasyland, Universal Studios, SeaWorld, Cypress Gardens, Gatorland, Splendid China/Chinatown, Silver Spurs Rodeo, Water Mania and may other smaller attractions.
The Kissimmee area offers other recreational activities including golf, tennis, fishing, water sports, natural attractions, ecotourism to name a few. Lake Tohopekaliga, or "Lake Toho," is the setting for fishing tournaments, and you can enjoy boat tours along the scenic Kissimmee Chain of Lakes.
